Northern Arizona Pioneers' Historical Society
Pioneer Museum Update
SB 1017 passed unanimously with the Senate Appropriations Committee but still needs to be presented to the full Senate and House. Please follow along and continue to support the reopening of Pioneer Museum in Flagstaff.
The Pioneer Museum building was constructed in 1908 as the Coconino County hospital for the indigent. Since the early 1960s, it has been an informative site to learn about the history of the area and has been the home of award winning exhibits. The museum and grounds have been bustling with school children learning to dip candles, make rope and witness blacksmithing in person. The grounds have been used for weddings, reunions and meetings but has remained closed since 2020.
Pioneer Museum and Riordan Mansion were once "sister sites" interpreting the history through exhibits at the "poor farm" to the "mansion." This was the perfect experience for visitors, students and locals. Let's bring the experience back!
We have progress - we just need voices (and letters... lots and lots of letters)!
